Barcelona is known for being one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Its blend of cultures, art and sea make it a unique city for an unforgettable holiday.

Barcelona has many worldwide known tourist attractions, yet offers many other lesser-known options that represent the essence of this city.

The sun and beach tourism is not the most important in Barcelona, ​​but it is undoubtedly a great choice to disconnect and catch some sun.

In Barcelona city there are several beaches, the most famous is the beach of Barceloneta. It is one of the most popular options for city visitors as it is very easy to get there by public transport. Also you can find many restaurants, sports areas, places to rent surfboards or bicycles, etc..

To reach Barceloneta Beach from the city center you can take bus number 59, which runs down the Ramblas, also buses 16 and 17 which pass through Plaça Catalunya or take the metro to Barceloneta (Line 4).

Other options of  beaches in Barcelona are the beaches of Nova Icaria or Bogatell, which can be easily reached by Metro, the corresponding stops these two beaches are Ciutadella Vila Olympic, and, Bogatell (Line 4). During the day can you find in the Olympic port a wide range of restaurants.

At night the area of the Vila Olímpica becomes the main party area of the city. The main clubs are in the area of ​​the Mapfre Towers, next to the Casino de Barcelona. You will also find bars for a drink, we particularly recommend the Icebar, a bar 100% made of ice.

Beaches near Barcelona:

If you want to enjoy a little more calm you can move a few miles until you reach the Costas del Garraf. One of the prettiest villages in the area is Sitges, during the nineteenth century it was one of the cultural capitals of modernism. Sitges is known for its beach, the white houses and narrow streets full of small shops and restaurants.

Sitges is 40 km away from Barcelona. To reach the beach of Sitges you have to catch the local train “Rodalies” at Barcelona Sants station and take line C-2 to Sitges station. From there it is indicated how to get to the beach. The journey takes about 30 minutes.

Other beaches inCatalunya:

In Catalonia there are lots of beautiful beaches. One of the most idyllic areas of the Catalan coast is the Costa Brava. The beaches of the Costa Brava are just over an hour from Barcelona, ​​there are many different alternatives, we show you a few:

- Palamós:  It is a small fishing village located 120 kilometers from Barcelona and it has a beach over 4 km long and also an ideal seafront promenade to take a walk in the evening. Along the seafront you will find many specialized Catalan seafood cuisine restaurants.
To get there from Barcelona you can catch a SARFA bus from the North Station, the journey takes about 2 hours.

- Cadaqués: For many people it is the most beautiful village of Catalonia. It is a small town in northern Costa Brava at the Alt Empordà and it has a lovely small stones beach. The best known are the narrow village streets full of beautiful white stone houses. Cadaqués is a cultural tourist destination; the Salvador Dali House Museum is one of its interesting attractions. Also lived there great artists like Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Marcel Duchamp, etc..
To get there from Barcelona you can catch a SARFA bus from the North Station, the journey takes approximately 2 hours 30 minutes.

- Lloret de Mar: It is a tourist destination mainly focused at young people, the main attraction are the clubs and nightlife. Lloret has a long beach to enjoy during the day and at night the downtown streets are filled with young people wanting to party. For many Lloret is considered "Las Vegas" of Catalunya. What happens in Lloret remains in Lloret.
To get to Lloret from Barcelona you can catch a SARFA bus from the North Station, the journey takes about an hour and 45 minutes.

 

From Barcelona you can enjoy many beaches of the city and also of Catalunya, it is highly recommended to take one or two days of your vacation in Barcelona to take advantage and visit the Catalan coast.

  1. We always combine our trip to Barcelona with a couple of nights in Sitges now as it is the perfect combination. We have also visited cadaques twice and it is stunning. Other beautiful places on the Costa brava are Tamarin and inland Pals and Gerona is also a must see
