La Ruta d'en Mamadou
On Tuesday April 25, part of the team at Hotel Curious and Hostal Mare Nostrum we went to do LA RUTA D'EN MAMADOU, a bike route through Barcelona explained by Mamadou. Mamadou, founder of Diandé Africa, is a young Senegalese extutelado who was once a user of many social entities in the Raval neighborhood. He has also been a volunteer in some of them. On numerous occasions he has been invited by schools and universities to explain his life experience. In his lectures he realized the unknown social fabric and social problems of the Raval neighborhood for the population of Barcelona. Hence the idea of designing La Barcelona de Mamadou, formerly called Una Barcelona Diferente Sobre Ruedas, was born.
It is a bicycle route that goes into the local population in the social organizations and citizen initiatives of the Raval neighborhood. The workers of the entities explain their day-to-day and the guides of the route, who are young users or former users of the visited entities, explain their personal experience. We train and support the guides so that they can develop their social and labor skills and insert themselves in the labor market. The route ends with a walk along the beach so that the participants can relax after knowing this reality.
Thanks to this route, Mamadou has been awarded by the European University of Madrid as Young Social Entrepreneur in 2015 and, in the same year, by the University of La Laguna with the Prize for Social Creativity.
The money raised goes to the management of the route and to the financing of the projects that Diandé Africa carries out in Ziguinchor (Senegal). The donation to make the route varies depending on the public.
Congratulations Mamadou and the Diandé Africa team for your humanitarian and cultural work!
